THE MICHELANGELO HOTEL - INTERIORS
World travelers feel at home in the Michelangelo Hotel, a new international style of hospitality design, one that sustains a high level of comfort and technology.
In close collaboration with Lionel Levine, Co-Arc International designed the interior of the Michelangelo by exploring anew the richness of historic Renaissance buildings and extending the internal architectural experience through geometric form.
Two grand atria in the Michelangelo form a lasting impression on the inhabitants, and the way in which these grand spaces work together with more intimate spaces adjacent to them is what makes the hotel a memorable destination.
Sunlight through the atria provide light and shadow to the interior during the day, creating a conscious time scale within the building. This connection to the outside is also highlighted through various functions like the conference rooms, restaurant and mezzanine that overlook the square below. A variety of marble floor finishes and patterns provide a palette that affirms the rich ambiance associated with the historic spirit of Renaissance architecture.
Vaulted ceilings and tall columns provide high-volume spaces that were designed to be memorable highlights, despite their scale. The interior palette serves to ensure that these spaces do not overwhelm the senses of the user, but are comfortably rich and tactile without being ornate. The interior provide a strong connection to the square and the exterior of the building, establishing a cohesive architectural whole.
