Collaborating with Trevor Julius from DSG, Co-Arc designed the interiors for the council chamber to contrast with the political past and set a course to a modern African theme and reference the new political transformation that was occurring in the country at the time.

The interior detailing signaled new beginnings by introducing new themes using a palette of natural and industrial tones. The palette is applied in a modern manner in order to give simultaneous expression to both African culture and political concepts and modern times in which these ideas experience their renaissance.

The simple, refined detailing gives a sophisticated modern feel to relatively inexpensive materials, enabling the interior to express modernity whilst of capturing a sense of a new South African democracy.
